Grouse Left and Right - 2013 SOLD OUT
Hamish has created a number of Grouse sculptures with the knowledge and enthusiasm of a true countryman. The Red Grouse has a rounded body with broad wings, a short tail and a small head. Hamish has sculpted them with his usual anatomical precision, both in flight and still, but one also gets a sense of animation.
"Observing grouse in the heathery moors of northern England is such a privilege whether it is as a sculptor, a photographer or from a grouse butt. The grouse shooting season starts on 12 August ‘the glorious twelfth’, and I am always keeping my fingers crossed for an invite!!" (HM)
Hamish’s dynamic Grouse Left and Right sculpture shows these birds in flight. It is available in a limited edition of 12.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
Birds require a different approach. I first make an aluminum wing and usually work in Plasticine because the feathers are so thin. It’s about interpreting feather pattern through texture. With this sculpture I am also trying to translate their flight into bronze, soaring though the moors, following the lay of the land below and the wind vectors above.
