Hare Turning - 2015 SOLD OUT
A recurring theme in Hamish Mackie’s work, the Hare is one of his favourite animals. He returns to the subject occasionally and each time he creates a Hare sculpture it is with a fresh eye.
"I have sculpted hares over the years, as a benchmark to see how my style is changing." (HM)
Beloved of children’s stories and Aesop’s Fables, the Hare is a creature long celebrated in literature, art and folklore.
Hare Turning is a limited edition bronze sculpture of a hare seated, looking back over its shoulder. Hamish conveys a sense of the animals natural agility, poised for flight. The hare’s distinctive long ears and powerful hind legs are evident but so is the watchful nature of this shy creature, captured in Hamish’s expressive manipulation of his material.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
I have sculpted hares over the years, as a benchmark to see how my style is changing. With this sculpture I am exploring the compositional transition from angular base to organic form. The hare is turning towards us alert to its surroundings, watching with ears up, and ready to move at any given moment.
