Mud Tablet - 2017
Inspired by his visit to the Musée du Louvre earlier this year, Hamish has created this wall hanging. He was fascinated by the terracotta cylinders and clay tablets etched with cuneiform script from the ancient Near East. His Mud Tablet 2017 is a contemporary take on those ancient pieces - at first glance it could be an historical artefact but one sees up close it is inscribed with the words "Mud Mud Mud..."
Hamish wrote into the mud while it was still wet and after waiting for it to dry, manipulated the natural process of cracking. The result is this striking piece with its tongue-in-cheek message. It would make a witty gift for collectors of antiquities or modern art. Available in Limited Edition and supplied with hanging brackets.

THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
Working in a different medium, especially with my mud pieces, was an opportunity to try out new avenues and processes. It was also a chance to get playful! I really enjoyed finding inspiration in ancient art and coming up with contemporary ways to express it.
