Roe Doe - 2015 SOLD OUT
Quick and graceful, the Roe Deer lives in woodland and is mostly active at dawn and dusk. Small and shy, Roe Deer are not as sociable as other breeds, living in small groups. They are elegant nimble creatures, and when alarmed, will flee with a bounding gait.
Hamish Mackie has created a series of bronze Roe Deer sculptures in a variety of characteristic poses. Placed alone or grouped together in a woodland garden, they provide a charming focal point.
Hamish’s bronze Roe Doe sculpture shows an elegant female Roe Deer, grazing serenely. Delicate and graceful she would make a treasured gift for any wildlife lover.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
This set of four sculptures was sculpted as a group and my intention was that they were to be installed together as a family group. Compositionally, they can be moved around to fit the environment in which they are set. Sculpting in this scale, and on this many sculptures at the same time, complements my work method, as Edward Lucie-Smith commented: "Working in this way requires not only physical skill, but also huge self-confidence." This confidence has been part of my sculptural journey and one that I am still on!
