Swift Large - 2006 SOLD OUT
Swift Large 2006 is Sold Out - try Arctic Tern 2014 instead.
A relation of the Hummingbird known for its aerial agility, the Swift is one of the fastest birds in our skies. It winters in Africa before migrating 10,000 km to Europe, feeding, sleeping and eating on the wing. The Swift heralds our summer, its short forked tail and long scythe-shaped wings casting a distinctive dark shape high against the light. At dusk, they fly low and fast around the rooftops, in excited gaggles emitting piercing screams.
Long immortalised in poetry and folklore, the Swift is associated with freedom and hope; their appearance each year confirmation that life goes on and nature’s cycle continues.
Hamish’s large bronze Swift sculpture is a monument to this remarkable bird, available in limited edition.

THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
Swifts are an extraordinary bird to study. They never land, and even sleep on the wing. This sculpture was one of my first on this scale. It has been installed in a number of locations including the middle of a lake, which was where the initial idea for the sculpture came from.
