Meet the Sculptor - on film! October 8, 2023

Earlier this year, we decided to make a short film about my life as a sculptor. I thought it would be a good way to introduce myself and my work to a new audience who might not be familiar with my sculptures.

We asked a local broadcasting company, Pougatch Media, to make the film. They have done a wonderful job and managed to expertly distil my career to date into a short 12-minute film! I hope it gives you an idea of my background, what makes me tick, and how I go about creating my sculptures.

The film tells how I got started in the early days, and some of the travelling I did to study wildlife, particularly in Africa. It goes on to show me sculpting in my studio at home in Hook Norton, and explains the casting process at Lockbund Sculpture Foundry.

It also shows many of my sculptures, past and present, and considers some of my most important commissions. For example, those at Merryll Lynch, Goodman’s Fields and the Royal United Hospitals in Bath. It also follows me and the team exhibiting at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, as we do annually.

When Hamish Mackie asked Pougatch Media if we could make a film about his life as a sculptor, we were determined to create something that not only showed off his extraordinary talent as an artist, but also the symbiotic relationship he has with the many skilled craftsmen at Lockbund Foundry. We also wanted to capture his individuality and charming personality and tap into the very essence of who he is. We’re thrilled with the result.’

I would like to thank all those people that supported me and made it possible for me to turn my passion into a career. And to those around me who continue to make it possible every single day!  I hope you all enjoy the film.
