Black Grouse - 2013
This limited edition bronze sculpture of a Black Grouse will delight fans of this distinctive little game bird. Hamish shows the grouse displaying; its lyre-shaped tail fanned out to reveal the under tail feathers. Overgrazing and a loss of habitat have meant a decline in the Black Grouse population, although things are starting to improve for these birds with more positive management of their natural home in upland areas of the UK. Hamish’s fondness for these pretty birds is evident in his light handling of the material which manages to convey a sense of the lively character of the Black Grouse.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
This Black Grouse was sculpted in my studio using research material I had collected over the years, both from the internet and from seeing them on the moors of northern England and Scotland. They are a bird whose name has become synonymous with whiskey!
