Cheetah Life Size – Launch Pad - 2012
Hamish’s Cheetah sculptures embody the very essence of these elegant Big Cats. His bronze casting of their lithe slender bodies and intelligent streamlined heads, conveys all of the grace, speed and agility the Cheetah is known for.
There are two life-size Cheetah sculptures, breathtaking both in their realism and in the emotional response they invite from the viewer. Placed outside in the natural landscape, they add an unexpected and powerful impact to a garden.
Hamish’s bronze Cheetah Life Size - Launch Pad sculpture shows the animal springing forward, the momentum driving his hind legs forward of his fore limbs. It is a remarkable illustration of nature’s perfectly evolved anatomy at work.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
In 2012 The AfriCat Foundation in Namibia, Africa allowed me to track cheetah with a guide on foot. It was an extremely exciting and privileged experience to watch them in their natural habitat. The photographs and video I took with my Leica camera are invaluable research tools that have enabled me to sculpt life size animals in my studio in Oxfordshire. Cheetah Life Size Launch Pad is part of a series of two sculptures, the other one being Cheetah Life Size Foot Down. Both these bronzes were sculpted using this research. I worked on them together as they two frames of the same scene.
