Who doesn’t love a warthog, including lions!

Warthogs are a type of herbivorous tusked swine that live in arid regions in sub-Saharan Africa. Their name derives from their facial wattle, which is particularly pronounced in males. They are a favourite prey of lions.

This male warthog bronze sculpture was made to run in front of Lioness Mid-Hunt – 2023. Originally I was going to make them both as one piece; a lion changing direction while hunting a warthog. However, I decided to keep them as separate sculptures so that they could also stand alone.

    Making Lion Sculptures at Lewa

    In February this year, I returned to what feels like my second home, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya. It is here that my sculpting began in 1996, so it is a very special place for me.     I have just returned from another visit to the Northern Rangelands Trust in Kenya. As a sculptor, studying wildlife in its natural habitat is the only way to understand an animal. The NRT's work is making a real difference to preserving those habitats. And this has a favourable impact on the people and animals that live there too.
