Using a piece of wood found while looking for flints, near Lascaux in the Dordogne region of France, Hamish has created an exquisite horse head sculpture reminiscent of Neolithic art.

I found this amazing piece of wood in the Summer of 2016, which looked naturally like a horse’s head – all I added was an ear and the eye. The area around Lascaux in the Dordogne inspires me – it is such a great place to research Neolithic man, their art and way of living. The river running thorough the valley with caves moulded into the rock above, the Lascaux Paleolithic cave paintings near Montignac, and the huge numbers of flints I found on my walks, have driven me in my sculpting and stretched my thinking of how I sculpt ever since.
