My passion for elephants began nearly 30 years ago. I have been fortunate to witness incredible moments, including elephant twins at Sirikoi. I remain fascinated by the almost constant communication these remarkable animals share. On one unforgettable occasion, an elephant gently placed its trunk towards the sculpture I was creating—a moment that left a lasting impression.

When elephants rumble, the vibrations resonate through you like the deep pulse of a bass note. Remarkably, elephants can detect one another through their feet and trunks alone across distances of up to 32 miles and can sense rain from 150 miles away.

This sculpture seeks to capture the quiet, intimate communication between a leading matriarchal cow and her calf, celebrating the profound bond that defines elephant society. The inspiration came during a game drive from an epic walking safari to the Serengeti Safari Camp with Nomad, when we encountered a large herd crossing a river. A single cow and her days-old calf diverged onto the dusty track we were on, already aware that the tires left a fine insect proof dust.

Elephant Cow and Calf is a stand alone sculpture or a companion piece to go alongside Adolescent Elephant 2025 and or Bull Elephant 2025, all made to scale with each other.
