Squid - 2020
Squid are soft-bodied cephalopods with a rod-like internal skeleton made of chitin. They can move slowly by undulating their muscular lateral fins or travel faster by jet propulsion. They change their colour to signal or for camouflage and some eject an ink cloud to put off predators. They are a popular dish all over the world, often known as 'calamari'.
Hamish's bronze Squid 2020 is a streamlined sculpture with a contemporary feel. It would make an interesting talking point in an interior setting.

THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
The plan was to go squid fishing off the Cornish coast but stormy winter weather followed by Covid 19 didn’t allow. I ended up buying a squid from a fishmonger and making a rubber cast to use as a reference model. I think this sculpture almost has the feel of a Samurai weapon to its shape!
