Hamish’s Stag bronze sculpture is life size and with his impressive antlers, would make a striking focal point in any outdoor space. It looks particularly fine placed in the natural landscape.

 

Going up the hill to watch the deer in the Highlands of Scotland is one of my favourite pastimes. I stalked a group of three stags to within six metres, before spooking them with my camera – an unforgettable experience. The rut, along with many other seasonal events in the animal kingdom, gives a fascinating insight into their evolved behaviour.

When the occasion presents itself, it is beneficial to work from a carcass, as in the case of this Stag sculpture. I have done this with many of my deer sculptures, using a pulley system to hang the carcass in my workshop. This life size sculpture was modelled from a stag shot on the west coast of Scotland. I sculpted him just as I remember having seen one, just disappearing out of sight over the top of the hill.
