Britain’s commonest owl, the Tawny owl is responsible for the familiar ‘twit twoo’ call heard at night. A nocturnal bird, like most owls they fly silently. They tend to hunt from a perch, waiting to hear the movement of their prey and then dropping down on to them. During the day, they roost, well-hidden.

Hamish has sculpted this much-loved bird about to alight on a perch, with legs extended and wings outstretched. Definitely something we’d all like to see in our gardens, this Tawny Owl sculpture makes a fine focal point outside or would work equally well as a free-standing indoor sculpture.

The Tawny Owl is one of my favourite birds. I love hearing them hooting at night in the garden! During a walk, mid-lockdown, I disturbed one in the woods near our house and watched it fly off. The last owl I sculpted was in repose, this time I wanted to show one in motion, just coming in to land, legs and wings outstretched.
