Yak - 2015 SOLD OUT
Yak 2015 is SOLD OUT - why not try Hereford Bull 2019
Hamish’s bronze Yak sculpture has a dynamism enhanced by its relatively modest size. The yak is caught in action, trotting forward, the swing of its long hair effectively conveyed by the loose texture and broad strokes of the sculpted material. We feel a sense of the animal’s power, his bulk ably carried by sturdy legs. This is a tough beast, perfectly evolved to thrive in the harsh conditions of a Himalayan winter.
Originally from the Tibetan plateau, the yak has been domesticated over thousands of years. It is widely used for its meat, milk and hide, and also to carry heavy loads and pull agricultural machinery.
Hamish’s Yak sculpture communicates something of the friendly willing nature of this gentle beast beneath its distinctive wide horns and shaggy coat.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
When in Belgium in 2015, the last animal I thought I would encounter was yak! But there they were in a field, where we were staying in the Ardennes. They were delightfully amusing characters to watch and research, this sculpture came out of an irresistible opportunity to sculpt one!
