Hamish frequently returns to sculpting cattle, a favourite subject that continues to inspire and delight him. During lockdown, Hamish made a new series of small bronze bulls - Bull Walking 2021, Bull Head Down 2021, Bull Head Up 2021 - three individual dynamic studies of cattle in characteristic poses.

Both the subject and the material lends itself well to Hamish's loose and energetic handling, which brings a liveliness to this series of bronze cattle sculptures.

They complement each other perfectly and together make a fine trio for the collector.

Making bull head down sculpture

Since growing up on a Cornish livestock farm, cattle have always being a favourite. My three 2021 bulls were a commission to be given as a gift. Made during lockdown I worked from a scan of a side of beef I sculpted in 2013 and my archive images of Spanish fighting bulls.
