Hamish Mackie back at Chelsea Flower Show 2022 May 11, 2022

I am so pleased that RHS Chelsea Flower Show is back in May in its usual spot on the British calendar! As much as we enjoyed the September event last year, the event really marks the beginning of summer.

I love the buzz of London at this time of the year. The streets of Chelsea will look fantastic thanks to Chelsea in Bloom, the prestigious annual floral art show that occurs at the same time. The theme for 2022 is British Icons. Very fitting for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year! I’m looking forward to the Royal visit to RHS Chelsea Flower Show on the Monday and we all hope Her Majesty is well enough to attend.

As usual, I’m excited to catch up with old friends and collectors and meeting new clients. I’m especially keen to see people’s reaction to my new sculptures, particularly the Monumental Hares 2021 which will be on the outdoor section of my stand. Standing at over 3 meters high, they will make quite an impact!

As well as my new Monumental Hares, the Stainless Steel Turtles 2020 will be on the stand as well as Einstein 2021, and the Wild Boar Sounder 2022.

This year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show will include an environmental garden feature. The BBC Studios Our Green Planet & RHS Bee Garden has been designed by Joe Swift. It aims to inspire garden lovers to encourage more bees into our gardens by sympathetic planting. This is such a simple but brilliant idea, as these wild pollinators are currently in decline within the UK and abroad. Joe also designed Horatio’s Garden at Stoke Mandeville, where my Ammonite sculpture is on display. It will be great to see more of his wonderful work.

My stand has been built by Bowles & Wyer again who always do such an amazing job. We are lucky to be in our usual place at Stand RHW/292, so do come and say hello! Towards the end of the week, my daughter Isabella will be helping on the stand for the first time. I know she will enjoy the event, but she might be surprised by what hard work it is!

It is going to be a wonderful week. Fingers crossed for some amazing weather!
