Cormorants are incredibly sculptural birds that live in coastal and inland waterways. They can dive to an astonishing depth of 45 meters to catch fish, using their feet to propel themselves. Their feathers are not waterproof, so they are often seen perched with wings spread, to dry out in the sun.
Hamish has sculpted a life size bird with wings held out in this very recognisable cormorant pose. Standing balanced on a beautifully textured piece of wood (now cast into bronze) found in the Fowey estuary, this sculpture has a lovely flowing composition with the curves of the wood complementing those of the bird. It is suitable for indoor or outside.
