“Living on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, and loving British livestock, it was only a matter of time before the Cotswold Ram became a subject to sculpt!” (HM)

A perfect fit for his loose handling of his sculpting material, Hamish Mackie’s limited edition bronze Cotswold Ram Head sculpture shows the wide sheep’s head covered in its characteristic thick woolly hair. This ancient breed of sheep was first introduced to England by the Romans and thanks to its magnificent appearance has long been known as the Cotswold Lion. Now classified as a rare breed, the fortunes of the Cotswolds wool trade were built on the export of its valuable fleece.

Living on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, and loving British livestock, it was only a matter of time before the Cotswold Ram became a subject to sculpt! Cotswold Rams are a rare breed sheep with lots of character. This sheep sculpture was made outside, with a Cotswold Ram as model, and is the first sculpture I have made with no visible eyes!
