These elegant and timid creatures inspired Hamish when he watched them in the desert. Fleet of foot, they are perfectly adapted to their habitat, being able to reach speeds of up to 65 km per hour over the sand dunes when disturbed. They have relatively large ears and can hear danger approaching from great distances. Their subtle sandy coloured coats are the perfect camouflage in the miles and miles of unbroken desert and so they are difficult to spot. Hamish was intrigued by their wariness and behaviour and set out to sculpt a series of them in bronze, Arabian Gazelle 2 – Running up Dune – 2017, Arabian Gazelle 1 – Running on Sand Flats – 2017  In limited edition, they are available individually or as a set of three.

Arabian Gazelle were sculpted after a research trip to the Middle East. I started the originals while travelling 160km through the Empty Quarter. Although named the Empty Quarter (Rub’ al Khali) there were numerous animal tracks visible in this vast hostile environment. It was an incredible experience to sculpt these gazelle within their vast arid desert, miles upon miles of nothing but sand. I witnessed their effortless flight up dunes – usually a single male. He would stop at the top and momentarily look back to reassess the potential threat. I have captured this behaviour within these three Gazelle sculptures, available individually or as a set of three.
