Chelsea Flower Show 2022 with Hamish Mackie Sculptures June 8, 2022

It was wonderful to be back with the Chelsea in its usual May slot. For the first time, The Newt in Somerset was the headline sponsor of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022.  The gardens were as spectacular as ever, as were the crowds and the British spirit … despite the British weather being a bit hit or miss!

Our stand looked fantastic! Bowles & Wyer did a brilliant job, especially the green living wall behind the Stainless Steel Turtles, the moss wall, and the planting around the Monumental Hares. A big thank you!

As always, Chelsea is as much about the people as it is about the gardens!

My daughter Isabella came to help on the stand for half the week, making it a real family affair.

Of course, it was amazing to see the Queen on her Jubilee year, who toured the gardens and exhibits in a buggy. After 70 years of service and leadership, she is still a real inspiration to us all.

I loved meeting Grayson and Philippa Perry too – I’m a huge fan of their Art Club program. And it was lovely to see fellow Tusk Trust supporter Deborah Meaden. I look forward to catching up with her every year!

It was particularly good to see fellow sculptor Mark Coreth, who was so helpful to me when I first started sculpting. And wonderful to meet Alice and Edward who collected Little Owl 2021 on the Saturday. It was bought as their wedding present!

There was lots of interest in my new Monumental Hares 2021 and it was wonderful to see Sarah Parish and Jim Murray who have installed edition number one in Southampton as part of their Hares for Hampshire sculpture trail.

Outside the RHS Chelsea Flower Show ground, it was Chelsea in Bloom, with some incredible floral displays!

It was great to be out showing my new work, much of it made during lockdown. Chelsea is always a wonderful opportunity  to get feedback from collectors and admirers of my sculptures, and to see old friends and make new ones. Bring on next year!
