Chicken, Young Leghorn Cockerel - 2009
“Chickens I find endlessly amusing, and have found myself hypnotised while observing a hen having its afternoon nap. A second chicken, a little more lively, jumped up onto my modelling stand and started pecking the clay original!” (HM)
Informed by his upbringing on a Cornish farm, Hamish’s bronze Chicken sculptures are delightfully full of character. Artfully placed in the garden, they provide a witty detail, particularly when grouped together.
“This group of three captures the humorous characteristics of every day chicken life.” (HM)
The Leghorn Chicken originates from Italy. Hamish has caught the sprightly manner of this poultry breed in his bronze Leghorn Cockerel sculpture, which strolls across the lawn with a jaunty air.
THIS SCULPTURE IN THE MAKING
This sculpture was made as a series of three, with Brahma Cockerel and Hen Pecking. They were made in my studio in Oxfordshire, with the models walking around making themselves at home and pecking the clay! They are amusing to watch and fun to sculpt.
